Automatic transmission for OM.606?

--Thats good news then....

Ive found a guy on a Forum who has one from 'sportline' 190 2.6, so hopefully if its a good price I'll get it--he has all the linkages and gearlever too.

--Even if it isnt quite as strong as your ambulance gearbox, it should at least get my machine running!

--Maybe the difference in numbers is something really small change between the .433 and .435.....

Do you know which flywheel is best to use, I can probably get a OM.601 or OM.602 flywheel for next to nothing, but OM.603 I would need to really search for!
(A friend has 'Commercial' M.B. repair place deals with vans and trucks--They never had 603!)

--Or maybe I should use 'gasser' flywheel?

Ive just talked to the guy selling transmission. Its a 717.432, He reckons this is same trans used for 'solid' (non dual-mass) flywheel...

717.432 is good yes?

No i dont. That what i have has been dual mass, but i change cluch axle at single model. You can see, if the axle come over at tranny it is longer axle (single) and if that stay same level it is dual mass model.

I think I understand...

If the 'clutch axle' (Input Shaft or 'Primary Shaft') sticks out further than the bell-housing flange, its for 'Normal' Single-mass flywheel.

If the Input Shaft is below/shorter than the level of the bell-housing flange, its for Dual-Mass flywheel....

Its still in car at the moment, I'll get the guy to check/remove and if its 'Normal' flywheel, I will buy it!

Hi Guys!

--I'm not having a lot of luck! This transmission I hope to get is still in the car (2.6 W201 'sportline') The guy who has it is also MB Mechanic and has WIS. (workshop-info. system)

One WIS is saying its for Non Dual-Mass (Normal flywheel) and another WIS is saying it IS for Dual-Mass--My head is exploding!
(Just to annoy me more, there are three 'Getrag 275' dog-leg Trans on ebay)--but with those, its 1:1 5th gear, so I would need to change diff too....

I ask him to remove the W201 gearbox to find out which it is...

IF it IS Dual-Mass, I will need to change the Input-Shaft (Clutch-Axle) for non dual-mass type.....
--To do which, I'll need to get non dual-mass transmission!--OR where can I get proper input shaft?

--I cannot find another 71743x transmission at the moment...

Does anyone here have or can get cheaply an 'clutch-axle' for a 717.43x type trans?

What would happen if I use Dual-Mass--if it fit-- on OM.606!?

The guy with the 717.432 is not talking to me, so I'm guessing 'Dual-Mass'--and cant find another at the moment!

Please tell me Why I cannot use gasser Auto Trans like 722.369 from W124 E320, M104 engine at 220BHP and 310nM torque?--Stock 606 is 175 BHP....

--I dont expect it to cope with much More power than 606 normally makes--without serious work,-- but surely it would be OK for 606 with 'stock' power?

Of course you can put that if you want, but that dont work smooth as the diesel box.

'Smoothness' depends on Modulator valve on side of transmission and the Vacuum sent to it from VCV on Injection-Pump...

--I set the Modulator for 'diesel' line-pressure as a start, maybe a little lower as its 'bigger' transmission than 722.361, with more friction-plates than proper diesel box....

Both Modulator and VCV can be adjusted, so I have hope I can adjust to be reasonably smooth....

On Friday night, I read the 2009 edition of the ATSG (Automatic Transmission Service Group) technical repair manual for the 722.6...it is a very good manual and well worth the ~$25USD.

The number of friction/steel plates in the clutch packs is increased and there are more pinion gears on the 3 planetary gear sets on the higher displacement/horsepower 722.6 automatics...other than that, all of the 722.6 automatics are pretty similar with exception to the 'converter housing' - bellhousing. I do not like all of the electronics and complexity - as well as the 4 different modes of torque converter clutch engagement. I prefer the simplicity of an older GM automatic.

I'm reasearching a bellhousing adapter to allow me to run a GM 4L80-E automatic in my E300 as my 722.6 needs to be rebuilt and I plan on at least 400hp out of the OM606.962 - I would like to keep the engine management electronic - but I have an injection pump off an OM603 to install once I get the transmission swapped out. I have found a place that has a bellhousing adapter for the OM617, but the OM606 is not the same. Here is the URL:

I contacted them and they offered to make an adapter for the OM606, but I need to give them an engine with crankshaft so that they can make the CAD/CAM model and run a few chunks of aluminum through their CNC mill and lathe.
